Expressive Word Formation in Journalism and Correspondence of Karel Havlíček
Kroupová, Karolína ; Martínek, František (advisor) ; Adam, Robert (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with expressive word formation in lexicon of Karel Havlíček. The research was based on corpus analysis, the source of material being the corpus of Havlíček's journalism and, marginally, the corpus of his correspondence. The first part of the paper describes expressivity and journalistic style and briefly introduces Havlíček as a journalist, summarizing relevant findings from the literature. The second part is devoted to the corpus analysis, focused on search of inherently expressive lexicon and its subsequent description with regard to the context of use (e.g. irony, etc.). The analysis covers diminutives of nouns and adjectives as well as expressive words formed by the suffixes -ina and -ácký. The paper also reflects Stich's research on neologisms and confronts it with the records found in the corpora.
